OVERVIEW OF LESSON

Statement of Inquiry: Our own stories inform art to inspire changes in audiences about intersectional discrimination.


Students will explore their social identity formation and national and global laws to understand intersectional discrimination. They will do this to understand better and deconstruct their prejudices against diversity and promote social inclusion. In addition to that, students will investigate how artists create works to discuss the connections between intersectionality and climate change.

TEACHING MATERIALS

Learning outcomes: Students will learn the technique of comic illustration to create their character(s) and visual short stories.

They will analyze different visual narratives about intersectionality, focusing on comics to reflect on the meaning of equality, diversity, its rights, and connections to climate change (Anthropocene).

Age group: Middle school

Duration: 14  lessons, 45 minutes each

You will need: Paper A3 size

Tools: pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, and black ink pens.
