OVERVIEW OF LESSON
Statement of Inquiry: Boundaries of power and privilege in history can be challenged by the reinterpretation of aesthetics.
Students will investigate white privilege and its consequences to tackle racism at school. They will conduct collaborative research as part of the summative assessment tasks inquiring into origins, connections, and the relationships between race, gender, and ethnicity within the frame of the civil rights movement of BLM from personal, local, and global perspectives.
TEACHING MATERIALS
Students will learn the technique of mural painting to work collaboratively while addressing discrimination against race, gender, and ethnicity. They will use visual research to inform the sketch for the mural and write a statement to re-think the model of the school they want to have.
Age group: Middle school
Duration: 20Â lessons, 45 minutes each
