'PERFORMING ARTS - THEATRE OF THE OPPRESSED' GRADE 8

OVERVIEW OF LESSON

During the middle years program, students decide democratically one important theme to address through performing arts. For example, in grade 8 students chose 'Bullying' and using Augusto Boal's idea for the theatre of the oppressed, students worked in groups producing a plot and performing a micro theatre play in front of their chosen audience (specific class or school grades).To protect the students' identity, this unit is not documented. 

TEACHING MATERIALS

Learning outcomes: Students will be introduced to theatre to express ideas in connection to social and environmental issues through their bodies.

Age group: Middle school

Duration: 14  lessons, 45 minutes each

You will need: Theatre props

Tools: Clothes, chairs, lights, masking tape, paper, markers.
