'ART & OCEAN' GRADE 9
OVERVIEW OF LESSON
Statement of Inquiry: Science and art work together to communicate research through narratives that define how we look at the Ocean.
Students will inquire into the ocean, and scientific research is done to understand how science and art can contribute to visualizing different narratives about the ocean.
TEACHING MATERIALS
Learning outcomes: Students will learn the technique of scientific illustration, performative drawing, performance, installation, and film. They will analyze different artists who work closer to the ocean as a theme and produce an artwork that responds to a student-lead question regarding the Ocean.
Age group: Middle school
Duration: 14 lessons, 45 minutes each
You will need: Depending on the students’ artwork choice, you will need different supplies.
Tools: phone with a camera, screen to project film, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, and black ink pens.
